What Are American Airlines Pet Travel Policy?

Pets in the Cabin
American Airlines allows small pets (at least 8 weeks old) to travel in the cabin if the combined weight of the pet and carrier does not exceed 20 lbs (9 kg). Pets must remain completely in their carrier, with the door closed, and under the seat during the entire flight.

American Airlines allows dogs and cats to be transported as cargo on a first-come basis. They allow up to 2 pets per passenger that are at least 8 weeks old. The combined weight for the carrier and the pet shouldn't exceed 100 lbs (45 kg).

How much does it cost to fly a dog on American Airlines?

There is also a limit of seven animals per cabin per flight, and this is first come, first serve. Assuming you and your pet meets all of the above requirements, you will have to pay a fee of 125 dollars per pet carrier in the cabin. This fee is not a round trip and will be required each way.

Does American Airlines require a health certificate for pets?

While American Airlines does not require a health certificate for your animal to travel domestically, some States do require health documents.

Can you buy an airplane seat for a dog?

Generally, if your dog in its carrier can fit under the seat in front of you, it can go in the cabin. You can't buy an extra seat for your dog. Traveling with a dog this way, essentially as carry-on luggage, usually incurs a lower fee than if it travels in the belly of the plane.
